The C.R.A.P. Design

Contrast
Ø Elements that aren’t the same should be very different so they stand out; making them “slightly different” confuses the user into seeing a relation that doesn’t exist.
Repetition
Ø Repetition in your text is bad; repetition of your design elements is not only good but necessary.
Alignment
Ø Alignment is a crucial not just to the cohesive appearance of your document but to the creation of contrast for elements like bulleted lists or double-indented quotes.
Proximity
Ø Pieces of information that are meant to complement each other should be near each other.
